Bregan is another farmer-turned-soldier and comes from the same community as Gilad. He is described as gentle, strong and brave and comes across as a bit naive, but he fights bravely alongside his friend Gilad until the Earl of Bronze, Regnak, gives the troops the option of leaving. He offers to stay because Gilad opts to though his friend convinces him to go home to his family to tell tales of their bravery to his son Legan.
As Orrin begins to find his feet as a general and a fighter, Bregan begins to hero-worship him and as such is at his side persistently through the battles up until he leaves the fortress.
